My son today had asked that I quit goofing around and start showing the GOOD STUFF ... well ok then... without further ado, Let me explain what you are looking at. You are looking at an unconformity in a rock formation in an arroyo along Lorenzo Canyon. Over time, water drains here and cause weak parts to erode away forming one of the NEATEST arches I have seen! The rock on top is not a sandstone like in Utah but is Basalt and it is very hard. In the first picture you can see the afternoon sunlight lighting up the arroyo behind the arch. In the second photo, I crawled under the arch and took a picture of my jeep from the other side. The third picture is hard to make out but there is a small canyon/drainage that is pretty steep going up and you can see the sunlight peeking through. The fourth photo is of the arch later in the day when the sun is setting, so now it looks like a cave and not an arch and it is dark. My son and I think this is very cool and noteworthy.
