My son was sold for Rs 15 lakh: Shahmali Petipora (Pulwama), July 17: Shahmali (50) mother of Shehbaz Ahmad Bhat, one of the three youth lured by Sub-Inspector Sonu’s conduits to setup a militant module to be later eliminated in alleged fake encounter, says her son was sold for Rs 15 lakh by the local conduit. Shehbaz (21) is a student of first year and Moulvi (prayer leader) in his area. Since the beginning of Ramadan, Shehbaz is functioning as Seharkhan of his Mohalla. He is only breadwinner for his parents, three bothers and a sister. Living in muddy house with shabby walls and floor, Shahmali says that her son was lured by some youth from another village. “He (Shehbaz) didn’t return to home after he left for work in April,” she says adding; “We went to police station and filed a missing report.” “I thought he would have gone to find some work as we live hand to mouth. We waited for him and did not bother to call,” Shahmali says adding that her son returned after less than a month and narrated the dreadful ordeal he had gone through. “Shehbaz was told that he will be given money. He never knew that he has been sold for Rs 15 lakh and will be no more,” she says with all praise for police in Jammu region and Pulwama. “Poverty forces anyone to do anything. My son got lured but thank God he is saved now,” she says. “My all prayers are for his well being,” she adds with tears rolling down her cheeks. His sister, a 10th standard drop-out says, that her hopes are tied with Shahbaz. “He will earn I will get married. My parents will feel at ease,” she said adding that she watches her brother closely now. “I do not want to see him away from eyes. He is gentle and that is why he got lured,” she said. In the dingy room of Shehbaz, an English grammar and some Islamic books are lying on the window. “He is preparing for examinations,” said Shahmali.
