My son wrote this today for his homework, Rare Chromosome Disorder. By Christepher Scotson In 2002 my mum found out she was pregnant. In 2003 I was born and weighed 7lb1, 8.00 on Saturday night when lotto was on! My birthday date is 05/04/03 In 2006 my sister was born but she was sick. She spent 7 weeks in hospital until she was well enough to go home. She had to have a lot of tests done and when she was 6 years old she had a special test done and that had got sent to America were they found out she had a rare chromosome disorder called 17q12 micro duplication syndrome. My mum and dad had to have tests done as well and their results were that dad wasn’t diagnosed with any syndrome but mum did. She didn’t know she had the same one as my sister. Mum had given it to her while she was pregnant. So my brother and I needed tests done. My brother came back ok but mine didn’t. I have a rare chromosome disorder like my sister and mum bit it is a different one. Mine is called 15q13.3 micro duplication. Their names are numbers and letters because they are so rare and don’t have an actual name because at this stage there is not enough known about them. We belong to a group called Unique. They are based in England. There is an office in New Zealand but it is small. The address is rarechromo.org. Last week there was a week for Fundraising and it was the first one they have ever had. There are so many Chromosomes o in our bodies and sometimes they double up and some delete. It is very had sometimes for me as one of the symptoms is ADHD. I have ADHD and am on medication daily which helps me. Sometimes it doesn’t always work but i do try hard.
