My speech at AASB CONFERENCE I would like to express my appreciation to my Chugach School Board for nominating me, and the nominations committee for bringing my nomination forward for your consideration as an AASB board member. Today I stand before you prepared to standing up, and speak up for public education. I am committed to steadfast and full support and promotion for everyone in AASB, who routinely provide assistance for our Alaska school boards, students and AASB. I would like to ask anyone who believes in the quality and effectiveness of public education to stand up at this time. Thank you to all who stand for public education. I am honored to stand with you today, and to recognize our collective efforts for our youth and our future. Please give yourself a round of applause for the selfless work you do for our youth, our schools, and Alaska’s future. You may sit back down now. My goal was to get a standing ovation tonight, so thank to all who stood and clapped with me to help me meet that goal. I’ve worked very hard for all Alaskan students, and we hope to soon have a network of residential schools who are collaboratively providing student exchanges so more students have a far broader menu of opportunities than they’ve ever had before. We know that together, we are stronger advocates for our children. Lets teach and promote student leadership. Let’s concentrate on decisions that will develop opportunities for our children to achieve their fullest potential. Let’s set the stage for them soar to heights that we can only dream of. The solidarity that we show here today will demonstrate to parents, communities and the entire state of Alaska that we mean business when it comes to our commitment to quality education for children everywhere. Thank you for standing with me, speaking up, and helping our entire state soar.
