My story... The day too much food saved Christmas A few days back I put up a Facebook status warning about the heat of my stuffed jalapeños that I made for our Christmas gathering... I knew there was a few different looking red chillies among the jalapeños but coles had labelled each of these packages jalapeños so I trusted thats what they were. My fingers were tingly during and after Id prepared them. (and still are slightly, two days on). I also sneezed and shed a few tears in that process too. But, in the belief they were just jalapeños that didnt worry too much. As luck has it, we had too much food. I never served them up that night. Yesterday James and I enjoyed therm along with other leftovers. enjoyed involved James hiccup, run to the kitchen, fumble around getting a bottle of water from the cupboard, scull that, pour four continuous cups of milk sculling those as he went. Then a jelly snake. His face through this was urgent desperation with a hint of I think Im gonna die . Took him another 5 mins to start eating the actual jalapeños. Which were lovely. When I ate my little non-jalapeno chilli just before him, my first response to the heat was to grab for the biggest green stuffed chilli and munch that down. Probably not the brightest idea looking back but it kinda worked. So the moral of the story is dont trust coles packaging, go with your gut. We survived to tell the tale. My chilli googling this morning tells me that if they werent habanero chillis, they looked a lot like these Trinidad scorpion butch T peppers... Currently the hottest in the world. I doubt they sell those in Tassie as coles though!!
