My topic suggestion for the day...Mono Coloured EDH! I personally have a mono Black EDH deck that I have been working on for 8ish months now, but I always get flack for it at my local shop. People question why Im bothering to play a mono coloured deck because a 2 or 3 colour deck is so much better. Granted, I understand why they think that way, as each new colour you introduce into your deck gives you more options for threats and removal, but Ive found that some people tend to think less of a mono coloured deck before seeing it play. I love mono coloured decks because I see it as a deck building challenge. When I first decided to make a mono coloured deck it was because I didnt want to invest in good colour fixing lands, but I also understood that one colour limited my card pool. So being in black I went and found the best tutors and card draw I could (Vampiric Tutor, Demonic Tutor, Necropotence, etc), as well as some of the most synergistic creatures for the deck I wanted to build (Cruel Control with a Reanimator subtheme), and rounded it out with some combos that would end games (Exquisite Blood+Sanguine Bond and insane ramp+Exsanguinate). Then I added some creature removal and other graveyard shenanigan spells. Those parts were easy because they are all exactly a part of what Black should do as a colour. The difficult part was finding the other stuff. Counterspells, Enchantment removal, basically just stuff that Black should NOT be able to do. Over the 8 months that Ive been working on the deck Ive constantly been tweaking it as I find new cards, and as I require new answers (cough...Iona...cough). At this point it is a rather powerful list, but will still get written off by some people as not good simply because it is mono coloured. So after all that my question is this...why do people look down on mono coloured decks? Or is that something that is not as common in other EDH metagames? Something to note - Logan and David can attest to my mono black decks strength, they have seen it in action on many occasions (just so that you guys dont think that Im just talking out of my ass). EDIT: I apologize for the wall of text, I just lost track of how much I was writing on the subject.
