My surname can easily be mispronounced for fun. In my high school days, I used to be very miffed about it. Either learn to say my surname properly or dont say at all, Do you even know what that surname really means?! used to be my standard retortions. The situation got so worse that I started to hate my surname. This became evident from my facial expression whenever my full name was announced for any award. One day my father noticed that face. Why that face? You feel like puking?, he asked curiously. I blurted out, My surname is made fun of. Dad told then, You remember that day when we went to that fort in Rajasthan?. Ya, I meekly replied without any clue about what he was going to say. You saw that elephant right? Did you notice anything strange? The elephant was many times my weight, I wryly replied. No, I asked anything strange not anything obvious Mr. Genius, he pinched me. Ouch! The dogs! They were barking over the elephant Correct! And was the elephant reacting? No, I was beginning to see the light. Your situation is the same. The dogs bark at the elephant simply because they dont have anything else to bark at. The elephant definitely cant run behind every dog, that would hurt him also. So, why do you get bothered by your classmates remarks? Your surname wont change, so will your classmates. But, you can change. I remember it till date. Recently, I went for a programme, and I registered my name. What?, the receptionist stuttered with my surname. I smiled and corrected him. #BunnyLearntLessons
