My take on Robert Sirleaf’s Senatorial Candidacy I like Mr. - TopicsExpress

My take on Robert Sirleaf’s Senatorial Candidacy I like Mr. Rob Sirleaf’s acceptance Speech. It is a good speech written and delivered by a well-educated person. But I have some questions; when does one start to care for the underprivileged so much? This CARE and/or SELFLESSNESS, is it in-born or developed? Does is developed abruptly only when once mother is at the helm of power? Don’t we have people who share the little they have with their neighbors in spite of not knowing where to start from the next day (like my poor mother)? Let’s look at few parts of the speech that caught my attention most: “I care that our mothers, brothers, and sisters who sell in the markets have not just a better marketplace, but also access to daycare, playgrounds, and a safe environment where their children and grandchildren can learn and play,” he said. “I will strive to reach across our differences in age, gender, religion and political parties because we should not be divided by these,” he said. “I will listen to them, listen to their dreams, their hopes, and their aspirations and together we will Think Forward to make those a reality.” I am wondering as to who is speaking in the two paragraphs above; a President or a Senator or a messiah? Is it realistic for a single Senator to think he can drastically change a 167 years governance system in Liberia curing all the wrongs? Is he that influential? If yes why aren’t we seeing it now (that some of us feel he is best placed) to achieve some if not most of what he outlined in his speech? Is it also possible for a senatorial influence in contemporary Liberia to make internet available in all corners of Liberia for kids to browse the internet and widen their knowledge? Is he the messiah? If yes, what is his mother, the president? What is going on here my people? Having we heard that Rob is the most loved son of the president whose view is highly respected by the President? Have we not also heard and observed that people recommended by Rob to positions in government are appointed without cross-checking or simple background checking? Why is he sounding like he is so powerless in this regime that when he is elected as senator he will suddenly have all the power (which he lacks now) to change Liberia for the good? Beware Liberians!!!!!!! My verdict: Taking the above two paragraphs and the entire speech in connection with Mr. Neyon’s open letter to the President, I think; 1) at Mr. Sirleaf believes he is headed for the Presidency; why? because history has shown that the promises proffered in Mr. Sirleaf’s speech has only ever been implemented by a sitting President; I don’t know about any Senator who has been that powerful and influential in Africa to effect such changes, 2) these statements are mere grandiloquence/rhetoric comparable to what we’ve heard before from mommy(you know she is) and a certain Mr. Taylor; 3) Mr. Sirleaf thinks Liberian are fools; and 4) he is using his sudden unexplained wealth to toy with the Liberian people because of their deprivations and destitutions. Let’s open our eye my people, enough is enough.
