My take on banning the burqa and Islamophobia, specifically in - TopicsExpress

My take on banning the burqa and Islamophobia, specifically in Australian parliament... Its discrimination under the guise of heightening security. Its the acceptance and implementation of Islamophobia in our government. This blatant act of discrimination makes similar acts more acceptable outside of parliament. Businesses will surely now be able to ban the burqa for security reasons as well, and what bigot wouldnt? They are *specifically* targeting burqas, implying that someone wearing a burqa, that is, a Muslim woman, is a greater security risk in parliament than any other man or woman. Yes, that is the explicit implication they are making. I can think of numerous more effective, and non-discriminatory methods of heightening security, none of which involve the oppression and prejudice against minorities. I think it is especially important, given the current climate and international issues at hand (ie POTENTIAL WARFARE), to have diversity and equal representation from minority groups in parliament. To specifically silence the Muslim voice and representation in parliament is an outrageous act of Islamophobia, particularly given our circumstances. (Seriously, what the?!) In conclusion, I think, for security reasons, we should ban Tony Abbott from parliament.
