My take on singham returns... A masala potboiler on an extended - TopicsExpress

My take on singham returns... A masala potboiler on an extended weekend and that too with the super successful combo of rohit shetty and ajay Devgan, this seems like a recipe of a mid season blockbuster.... And man is it served hot.... First let me start with the story... A done to death concept of good vs bad but with a refreshing take and keeping intact the essence of its predecessor, rohit once again proves why he is considered the Manmohan Desai of this generation...the story moves at a decent pace dropping a bit midway, courtesy a more than required screen time devoted to quite an underwhelming chemistry between the lead pair, but picks up just at the right moment to treat the target audience to a dishy climax.... Yes there are cars and trucks (and even a water tanker) ramming into each other and flying like only they can in a rohit shetty film...but the one to one fight sequences have been more realistically presented... Atleast going by the standard of the preceding installment.... Now coming to performances.... If there could ever be a bajirao singham in our cinema it can be only mr devgan... He owns it and how... His walk... His swagger... His no nonsense and dont-give-me-shit attitude....every move is punctuated with panache and aplomb worthy of a screen character of such high recall value.... His intensity speaks volumes of his acting prowess...ing to kareena.... Once again, it was a role tailor made for an eye candy to sleep walk through it...anupam kher s guruji draws generously from our current prime minister and so does his party name..once again, we have seen him portraying honest and virtuous social figure earlier....so nothing new on that front too... The caricaturish personification of a modern day baba comes to life with the effortlessly effective performance of amol gupte... And he plays the antagonist to the t, quite matching up to Mr prakash Raj in the first film.... The screenplay is not something to write home about.... Quite standard after seeing what the team ( as Mr shetty puts it) is capable of, in chennai express.... Music is just ingrained as a necessity rather than incrementing the package appeal.... And so is rightly limited to a couple of songs, one in each half.... Overall, the film delivers what it promises and that is a masala potboiler and yet appealing enough to draw a packed house at a metro multiplex and tier two city standalone cinema alike... A paiso vasool film with action pieces reminiscent of some high octane counter strike feal.... Its a good family entertainer
