My take on the latest Banksy shenanigans: There are numerous Banksy forgeries in the marketplace-- you can find them for sale everywhere. No one can be sure whether people actually did recognize the work, and if they did, how many didnt buy because they thought the paintings were forgeries. If I saw them for $60 each in that setting, chances are extremely good (like 100%) that I wouldnt have bought them either. So in the end, I found it a rather pointless exercise-- but it got the artist a huge amount of publicity from mass media outlets that dont really understand how the art world works.
