My team of doctors took out my brain tumor and saved my life. My nurses afterwards, including Veronica Koch and Elizabeth Jones-Wilson, made sure I stayed alive and that I healed properly. From the nurses who took care of me right after surgery, to the ICU nurses, to the nurses who looked after me before my discharge - they were all awesome. They wiped my butt. They snuck me extra ice chips. They were my pain management advocates. They put in my catheter, and took it out. They came running in the room in the middle of the night to ask me to cough so that my heart would beat right again. They made me comfortable after a vein blew out before I was discharged. They made me laugh. They ordered me food. They helped me walk. They helped me to the bathroom and helped me into a chair so that I could have a different view. They welcomed my family and friends. They were there for me the 23.5 hours of the day when my doctor was not, and I hope to God I thanked them enough. Im lucky to have many friends and family who are nurses. This nurses week make sure you say thank you to those who help you in ways that some of the closest people in your life never would (i.e. see wiped my butt).
