My thank note Memo: To Volga, SD Community Re: Veteran Day Memorial Service From: Andy Blidy Date: Nov. 12, 2013 I would like to take the time to thanks the entire Volga, South Dakota Community for the 2013 Veterans Day Memorial Service at Sioux Valley School District and the lunching seminar at the VFW post honoring Fred Baker and LaVerne Stackhouse. There is a wonderful story about these great men from the Third Cavalry Group from WWII and I did not do justice to convey my true feelings of what they have met to me, my family and our country. I am in awe of their duty, bravery and accomplishment of all veterans, especially WWII vets. And how they changed the lives of US citizen’s with their ultimate sacrifice to defend their country. I am forever tied to the 3rd Cavalry legacy, because of my father, Peter who serviced and fought directly with Fred and LaVerne. Some have asked me what are you doing that for? You are going where? For what? I leave these thought s for the Volga Community for I received more that I gave Nov. 11, 2013. What is Community time and love? Is it an ever-rolling stream that bears all our Community dreams away, as an old hymn would say? Or maybe it has loops and branches like a big oak tree, so you can keep going forward and yet returns to earlier times. Nothing puzzles me like Community time and love. And yet nothing troubles me less than Community time and love, because I never think of them in my daily life. Most of us don’t worry about Community time and love, whatever that will be, but we all do wonder sometimes how much Community time we give and receive, and where it leads. Should it be based on the most workable philosophy of positive thinking then according to this way of thinking, a good Community model that describes and codifies Community time, love and morals, which we live by, given to us from those that have pasted our way. Good Community times will describe a range of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness that stand the test of time. If the times agree with the observation, the Community survives the test of time thought it can never be proved to be the only correct way of life. On the other hand, if the observations disagree with Community traditions and predictions, they might be discarded, sacrifice or modify for family time. (At least, that is what happens. In life, Community members often question the accuracy of the traditions, Community time, love and the reliability of change that comes with togetherness. All one can do is hope for a good model of Community time and love. A Special Thanks to Jon Strupp, Denise Baker who did the right thing, knowing that nothing would have happen regarding this story. Thanks to Tom Oster and his staff for the organization and hosting of the program. Rev. Paul Thompson for the prayers. And finally to all the vets, all attendees, Blaine Hoff and the VFW post for a wonderful gathering, lunch and seminar. Thank you all To the Baker and Stackhouse Families, we are bonded for 69 years now and never realized it. Fred and LaVerne memories are cemented in our countries history in the town of Volga, SD forever more, thanks to the community. Never to be forgotten. For that I am grateful. We accomplished our mission of keeping their memory alive in the hearts and souls who attended the Service. Thanks to the community of Volga, SD. You have special place in my heart.
