My thought ......... Nirbhaya with you today we all rest in peace. Let me share with all of you what happened to me while 16th December Gang Rape Happened. I was in Delhi researching for my show Police Dial 100 when the gang rape happened. A 23 year old physiotherapy intern was brutally gangraped, assaulted in a moving chartered bus by a gang of hooligans, and finally left on the streets to die with her intestines torn out. The media went berserk and everyone was lambasting the cops for their alleged gross inefficiency and disregard for what was going on. And at that time I was trying to research the show with a tag line .... It is not easy being a COP. A skeptical Comissioner of Police Neeraj Kumar asked me if I wanted to still go ahead with the show after all the chaos and the negative publicity that the media gave ...and I said of course. And as luck would have it .... Shri Neeraj Kumar asked the then DCP of Delhi South Chhaya Sharma - who was the main investigating officer on the Nirbhaya case - to permit me to sit with her and capture each and every move for the next 72 hours. She was reluctant at first but finally agreed on the commissioner’s insistence. And with Chhaya Sharma I got to witness first hand the efforts put in by the police to hunt down and then book the perpetrators; I tracked the protests at India Gate, the police handling the family of the rape victim as they silently saw their daughter fight for her life. I also followed the capture of the last rapist. The police team in South Delhi was busy filing charge sheets and ensuring that Nirbhaya got justice. My commitment grew stronger following this. I knew what I wanted. I spent 10 days with Chhaya Sharma and her team, had lunches and dinners in their canteen and sat in their Gypsy vehicle as a silent spectator while they went about on their night patrol even as the temperature dropped to near freezing.” New Year silently walked in and the police station stayed silent because for them there was no reason to celebrate..... Not bothering about their own kids and parents because they focussed on the kid in Safdarjung Hospital (Nirbhaya) battling for life and her parents still hoping that the impossible would come to their rescue. Before the new year Nirbhaya was wheeled out of India and then out of the world and the commitment of my friends at the Police station grew stronger and stronger. It was during the course of this that I made my best friend and the person I admire the most Chaaya Sharma and through her of the Police in India and the man who like a leader fought the crisis of his force Sri Neeraj Kumar ..... What a man ???? With a man like him around Delhi was safe and so was the police force ..... There was so much pressure on him from all sources and of all kinds..... Anyone in his place would have succumbed and surrendered..... But this man and his team and their dedicated efforts ..... Today we all have seen justice ..... Thanks to the efforts of Investigating Officer IPS Chhaya Sharma and the Comissioner Sri Neeraj Kumar we will all sleep in peace with the biggest wish of ours being granted... To see the criminals being hanged. Imagine Delhi does not deserve these two people ..... Silently Neeraj Kumar fought not only for his team but also for the dignity of the Cops at large ..... Today none of the News channels had the decency to thank him and his team for such a fantastic Job ..... while Chhaya Sharma sips her tea in Mizoram ..... I think today they both deserved to be on each and every News channel and the channel heads apologising for their behaviour .... BUT WHO HAS THE GUTS TO SAY SORRY....
