My thoughts on EASTER….apparently a holiday named after the pagan fertility goddess Eostre. Early Christians called the celebration of Christ’s resurrection “Pesach,” the Hebrew word for Passover. Almost all other cultures use this word or variation of it for the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. However, our culture calls it Easter. Eggs are rooted in pagan symbolism and really just about everything with think of regarding Easter came from old world traditions and pagan beliefs. Does that make the word Easter, the cross, eggs, bunnies, chicks, egg hunts and hot cross rolls evil? Or, does it mean you idolize something else other than our Lord Jesus Christ because it came from pagan origins? Some people like to believe Christians should have nothing to do with anything that originates from the pagans. They might be surprised to find that would include the cross, because the cross was a pagan symbol as well. I say, the Lord has always used non-Christian people, ways and situations to advance His kingdom and to bring people to Jesus Christ. Should we not do the same? And let us be honest, most all of the Christian holidays are on or around a pagan holiday or feast. This was purposely planned by the church as a way to blend the pagan celebration into the Christian celebration . Thus, advancing the Christian ideology and promoting the Christian holidays instead. A take-over of sorts. So, give me the bunnies and chicks and brightly colored eggs and I will use it to tell you about my Savior. He lived and died for me, then arose on the 3rd day. Halleluiah! I feel if your heart is celebrating Jesus Christ and the focus is on His life and resurrection, the rest of the trappings of Easter should be minimal in comparison and not so controversial. Just put God first and teach the true meaning of Easter to your children and grandchildren. Let us not forget the sacrifice our Savior made for us and let us worship Him for it. Indeed it is serious stuff, but celebrating is suppose to be joyful and so I don’t see the harm in having a little fun hunting some eggs or eating some chocolate bunnies or hot cross rolls… Romans 8:28, KJV And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
