My thoughts on Witless Link: A few years ago they cancelled all the evening ferries, apparently the captain and his best, sorry first mate both had deli tummy. They had no back up crew so on arriving at the terminal in Portsmouth we were informed: a) they had tried calling us at home - Am I missing something here? after all it was the return leg of our journey b) we could wait for the next sailing - tomorrow at 5am (It was currently 10:30 pm) Bearing in mind there were 4 of us in the car including 2 young kids. Are Wightlink prepared to pay overnight accommodation I ask, I dont think think so, youll have to ask the Manager. Where is he I ask? In bed asleep youll have to ask him tomorrow! mmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! c) Or you can drive to Lymington and get the midnight crossing. We drove, (within all applicable speed limits of course) and just made it. We thought as a gesture it would have been good customer service to offer their customers a free cuppa / refreshment. Nope not their problem was it................... The following day I called customer service, and eventually after my prolonged protests they refunded me ....................................... wait for it........................................................................................................... ......................................£19 Turned up on Boxing Day a few years ago - in plenty of time for our crossing at Freshwater. They apparently had to change boats for a smaller vessel. And guess what, we could not get on..... Not their problem is it??? Compensation?? Free Cuppa while you wait??? Apology??? What do you think? What do I do now, travel by Red Funnel because: a) They are FRIENDLIER b) When we missed a ferry last week, no problem just popped us on the next one at NO EXTRA COST ! c) CHEAPER !!! SO iVE VOTED WITH MY CREDIT CARD, even if it makes my journey longer Im determined not to give them my money..... And finally, Id settle for a Toll Bridge any day!!!
