My thoughts on the Hobby Lobby fiasco... First and foremost, - TopicsExpress

My thoughts on the Hobby Lobby fiasco... First and foremost, the question should be: Should ANY business be government mandated to provide anything besides minimum wage pay to their employees? I say no. Second: Should a company such as Hobby Lobby that has a track record of publicly expressing their religious beliefs by doing things such as, voluntarily closing their stores on Sundays to allow a day of faith to their employees, be government mandated to pay for services they are morally oppose to? I again, say no. This is not an excuse to them. Third: Hobby Lobby is not asking for an exemption to fund ALL birth control - only two kinds - the Morning After Pill and the IUD. The morning after pill works by either changing the PH in the uterus to not allow a fertilized egg to implant or will destroy an implanted egg within so many days. This one is a no-brainer to me why a religious company would oppose it. The IUD is a little different. There are two types of IUDs - the copper Paragard and the hormonal Merina. The copper IUD is thought to act in two ways, the copper either kills sperm before it enters the fallopian tubes or alters the PH of the uterus to not allow a fertilized egg to implant. The Mirena IUD releases hormones similar to a birth control pill, simply not allowing an egg to be released, but also preventing implantation if a fertilized egg was to be released. Yet, every other type of birth control Hobby Lobby would still be willing to fund. Again, I say no. What does all that mean? Stop with the BS propaganda that this about birth control, and own up to the fact it is about only two forms of birth control. I wholeheartedly agree this opens doors to other religious objections, but if those come into play, they deserve the same attention and affection this case has received.
