My thoughts on the movie NOAH: (after waiting several months, I was eager to view it last night and presumed its significance based on my calling of vocational youth ministry. These are my opinions, for what theyre worth ... not much!) All in all, the movie was good in my opinion (like marinated chicken on the grill kind of good). It was thought provoking ... the way I like it! There was a big part I didnt like, though, throughout the movie, in which some rock creatures, whom God had punished, had taken on a role of helping to build the ark and defend Noah. That was a little too sci-fi for me. Thoughts: I didnt go into it looking for Biblical errors, I already settled in my mind a long time ago that man will never get it right. (I went to see a movie; not sit in a Bible class ... and Ive already done my fair share of that at a Bible College.) With that in mind, I just sat back and enjoyed a movie. We all like to do that once in a while, dont we? Btw, the last movie I saw in the theater was Frozen. How many of us went to see that?! There were some themes that I really appreciated ... Like Stewardship: man was put in charge of earth to take care of it. When earth isnt taken care of, bad things happen. Also, Creationism: the account of a 6 day Creation was spot-on. I appreciated the continual reference to God as the Creator. The Creation account was captivating, to say the least. Atonement: sin and evil must be accounted for. Left to our own, we mess up and our selfish view of life and earth comes with a cost. So, Im sure there are many critics this weekend, but if it makes people read their Bible, then great! Christians fight for many things such as being able to say Merry Christmas ... We should take Noah as a gift. If an unbelieving movie industry can attempt to portray Biblical doctrine, then something good is happening ... In spite of a few details being left out or liberties taken. (Let us not forget that the Athenians had created a statue to an unknown god and that became an opportunity for Paul to proclaim the truth?) Lastly, Be warned, the movie has images of warfare, violence, and death (a little bit like the Bible, huh?). Its not really a feel-good movie, (Lord knows we already have enough Christian-movie-industry and Hollywood-industry films designed to do that.) I felt that this was more of a reflective piece that leaves you asking, I wonder how bad it really was upon the earth and what a catastrophic flood looked like?. And, if God hadnt made a promise to Noah and later on intervened by sending the last full atonement for us, what kind of fear-based life would I be living? (Im so thankful God made a new promise with us on this side of the cross to have forgiveness and freedom to live in His continuing Grace.) Lastly, I also left with the question, would I have been found to have been a man of faith during the days of Noah? Those are my thoughts, for what theyre worth. Not much!
