My thoughts on this fiasco. If you agree, please like and share. Thank you. ~ Nick As a fiction writer, I do my best to try and think outside the box; and for a moment, I’d like you to do the same. I want you to step back and look at our government shutdown as an outsider would, without any preconceived notions. I feel the need to preface my thoughts, because if they prove to be true, we have precious little time to right the path our politicians have chosen to take. Suppose this shutdown has been planned, a precursor to a far larger event that looms in the near future; Phase One in the dismantling of America. With the vote to raise the debt ceiling limit, just days away, what if Phase Two of the plan were that will be no vote and the Federal Government plans to default on its financial obligations? I don’t have to tell you that the results would be catastrophic. The door would be thrown wide open for immediate and irreversible change. What those changes might be are anyone’s guess. Did I lose you yet? Forgive me, I’m just thinking out loud (and I pray that I’m wrong). You might argue that a conspiracy like this would be too large to contain, but I would argue that a handful of key players could carry it out. Our country is grossly in debt, yet most of that debt, roughly ten trillion dollars, is owed to itself. This is a stretch, but what if Phase Three of the plan were that America were to merely default on that part of its obligation? Think about it, this would give the Federal government the excuse it has been looking for to completely restructure our country. By bankrupting itself and sweeping that part of the debt under the rug, we would see a massive overhaul of our government, unlike anything we’ve seen since the reconstruction era. Crazy? Perhaps, but let’s look outside the box again. We have Obamacare, the irresistible force and the Tea Party, the immovable object; the perfect ideological tool to blame for the mess we find ourselves in. When you factor in the no-vote to pass a spending bill, complete gridlock on Capitol Hill, and the looming vote to raise the debt ceiling, we have a perfect storm brewing. The question we all must ask ourselves is: do we trust our politicians to captain our precious ship during this epic gale? The aftermath of such a storm is inconceivable. My overactive (and optimistic) imagination conjures up images of a police state, in the days that follow; gradually loosening until the President and the Feds feel they have made the changes they feel necessary to establish a sense of normalcy. Make no mistake about it: if this were to play out, America would be a shell of its former self. And tragically, this is the best we could hope for. There are much darker scenarios. Look, I’m just an average Joe. I could be totally off-base, but what if I’m not? What can we do to stop this madness? I think the key here is awareness of the situation. Watch and see; if this government shutdown lasts until October 17th, and if the battle between the irresistible force and the immovable object still rages, we can be reasonably certain that there will be no movement to raise the debt ceiling. We will be in default. At that time, (if not earlier) America will need to stand together and tell Washington that we know what they’re up to. We need to shout it from the rooftops. Maybe by calling them out, we can pressure them into acting responsibly and out of this insane, and treasonous, act of sabotage. Also, if the shutdown continues, I would also keep an eye to the ground and slowly stock up on the necessities. Be hopeful for the best, but plan for the worst. None of us can imagine what will happen if October 17th comes and goes without something being done. I don’t want to scare anyone, but I do believe we have to consider these possibilities. I have precious little faith in the men and women running our country. At the very least, they have proven themselves to be incompetent, arrogant, and totally out of touch with reality. Our elected politicians are holding us hostage and the ransom is America, as we know it. Are we about to pay that price? These are dark days… God help us.
