My time in Ethnic Studies and specifically Chicana/o Studies was - TopicsExpress

My time in Ethnic Studies and specifically Chicana/o Studies was the most fulfilling, inspiring, academically rigorous, compelling, soul-feeding experience, of my life. It led me to life-long mentors, deep friendships, connecting with youth to farm workers to activists to politicians to artist to musicians, supported me through graduate school with research positions & TAships, and served as the foundation for my Masters of Education Thesis as well as my work with the Davis Bridge Educational Foundation and the Yolo Family Resource Center. Every. Single. Day, I draw on a something I learned in one of my classes and speak to a friend/mentor/colleague/confidant who I met as a result of the time I spent in Chicana/o studies. Ive adapted curriculum from classes when working with children, teens, mothers, fathers, and grandparents, of ALL backgrounds. There is no doubt in my mind that the curriculum boosts achievement amongst those who our system is failing the most. So blessed these experiences led me to so many of you and you continue to be a part of me life. So disheartened by what has taken place in Arizona.
