My two cents on Prop 6: 20 percent must go to water conservation funding and 10 percent to funding rural and agricultural water conservation projects. Wendy Davis and Greg Abbott and Rick Perry are for it. Debra Medina is against it. Libertarians are uniformly opposed. Sierra Club and Nature Conservacy and Environment Texas are for it. DMN is for it. Koch Bros are for it. It passed in the State House 130 to 16. Passed Senate 29 to 3. A lot of the liberal oppposition seems to be because the Governor will appoint the board that will administer the money and Rick Perry has such an abysmal record of chronism. But Perry is a lame duck. With any luck at all in about a year Wendy Davis will be our governor. Does anyone argue that we dont need to do something about the water situation in Texas? These funds would go to implementation of the comprehensive State Water Plan to provide for our needs for decades to come. This money is just the tip of the iceberg for whats needed. We should have started this process years ago but the legislature has been too chicken to do their job and get it done. And they still havent done their job - they passed it off to the voters who really struggle to absorb the intricacies of this program. Im strongly for it. Believe we should have done it long ago. Cant afford another delay.
