My vent for the day....a couple of things that are retarded...yes retarded!! A word I reserve and use when describing a process that is just blatantly stupid and as per the dictionary...retarded is to be slowed or delayed in development/process = behind the times. Last night was commencement. We attended to celebrate Malainas completion of high school and celebrate both her and her friends accomplishments. It was bittersweet. Nice to see the smiling faces of all the graduates as they shared their experiences out in the world thus far. and incredibly sad because Malaina could not attend. So my vent....It is retarded is that they choose to hold high school graduation in November after all the students have moved away to go to post secondary education. You cant argue with an obvious fact. this is poor planning. There are perhaps reasons why it is believed to be a good idea to hold it in November although I know many schools are changing to a June commencement to accommodate and ensure that the students (who commencement is about) are able to attend. My second and more important rant...why dont they even bother to read the names of the students and their accomplishments if they arent able to attend? To be honest I have never really paid attention to this before and for that I feel terrible...it is like those students dont even exist. and it would take 15 seconds to at least honour their name and their accomplishments. A letter providing this feedback will be sent to the school and the board. It is my hope that it inspires change. Commencement is about celebrating all of our students...not just some of them. So congrats to Taylor Whitsitt; Lisa Mahalik, Andrew Haves and my girl Malaina Huffman and anyone else who was missed last night. if you know of someone and see this post please add their names....
