My very respected friend Sri Deepak Raja (well known as a great artist both Sitar and Surbahar throughout the Globe as also he will be remembered for his excellent contribution in Classical Music) arranged a beautiful classical programme at Khar, Mumbai on 27th July to pay homage to Great Singer Vidushi Dhondu Tai Kulkarni ( the only disciple of Surashree Kesarbai Kerkar- Jaipur Gharana) on her 87th Birthday. It was a small auditorium packed up with great classical artists and classic listeners. The programme started with Guru Vandana by my friend Deepika Bhide. She sang few slokas so beautifully, which is very difficult to forget. Next programme was of Smt. Smita Bhagwat ji who is one of the senior most disciple of Vidushi Kulkarni ji. Smita ji also learned Thumri from Vidushi Shova Gurtu. After kheyal, she presented a beautiful Thumri, which was her excellent contribution in this programme. Then Shri Sanjay Dixit ji presented Kheyal. I was remembering Pt. Mansurji while listening to him, so sweet voice and good presentation. Vidushi Kesharbai and Vidushi Dhondu Tai are known for their purity of Kheyal presentation, which was reflected by the singing of Dhondu Tai Jis junior disciples Deepika Bhide and Rutuja Lad. What a presentation by Deepika at this age!!! It is just blessings of Dhondu Tai Ji and Deepikas devotion and rewaj. People will remember her style of singing and this beautiful Mehfil. Now it was the turn of my favourite Rutuja Lad.. She presented Raag Bhopali (my favourite raag). Anybody will appreciate her Swar Sadhana. Her vister is so nice. Her speciality is Aaa and Ri in her beautiful voice. A magical presentation. I enjoyed so much these two young artists, I repeatedly requested Deepakbhai to give me their recordings so that I get the chance listen them again. I must say something about my young friend and very good singer with sweet voice Shri Aditya Khandwe, who is a great singer as well very helpful friend to the artists. Then great Pt. Omkar Gulvady ji presented a short solo in tabla, in a very different style. My sweet friend Yati Bhagwat continiously accompanied most of the vocalists in Tabla who is the disciple of friend Pt. Suriyaksha Despande ji. I must say a few words about the most beautiful Harmonium player Shri Annirudh gosavi. How calmly he accompanied each and every artists so nicely. What a beautiful vocal-friendly tune in his harmonium. He also accompanied Gulvadyji in his solo performance. At the start he showed his skill for five minutes. The audience was just spellbound. Thanks to Deepak bhai for such a beautiful programme.
