My very, very, very favourite thing to do as a family photographer - TopicsExpress

My very, very, very favourite thing to do as a family photographer is to capture families in their own environment - their home. This is called a lifestyle session in the professional photography world. Its a genre of photography. Wikipedia describes it as - a kind of photography which mainly aims to capture portrait/people on situations, real-life events or milestones in an artistic manner and the art of the everyday. The primary goal is to tell stories about peoples life or to inspire people in different times ... My take on lifestyle photography is just photographing families as they are. Their home, their relationships, their little idiosyncrasies, their pets, their favourite bedtime stories, their childhood toys, their meltdowns and their indescribable love for each other. Its such a small moment within the story of their lives ... but this tiny snapshot will one day transport them back in time and breathe life into their faded memories. I was absolutely stoked when the Futyma family asked me to photograph them in their beautiful old Queenslander home and backyard acreage. From their brief I noted they wanted a mix of portraits and candid photographs that documented their everyday life, relationships and surroundings. So, prior to their shoot I popped out to meet the children, check direction of light, walk the property and select and coordinate outfits. Location and outfits are just part of setting the scene. What unfolded on the day was unpredictable, spontaneous, and just so, so awesomely perfect in every way ... Part I ... because FB will let me only post a few at a time ...
