My view of Nigeria @ 54: as published in Hallmark Newspapers today titled “Leadership challenges troubling” Administrator of All Progressives Congress South Nigeria on social media and the Leader of “The Salvage Group, a Socio-political group, Peter Ajayi, said looking back on Nigeria at 54 years of independence, the country`s politics has tremendously improved, adding that despite the fact that since 1960, democracy had been truncated about four times, the country still maintains it. He stressed further that the sustainability of Nigeria democracy was possible due to doggedness and determination of past heads of government such as former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Musa Yar`adua, adding that they ran governments without bias or sentiment. “They tackled the security challenges facing the country, corruption were reduced, the unity of the country was very important to them. Unlike the present government whose administration has been encouraging corruption from all indications, whose government has failed to bring to book the corrupt individuals and entities in the country”, said Ajayi. He stated that the value of education has drastically reduced, adding that citizens of the country are not accorded due recognition abroad. “The security challenge facing the country is almost throwing the country into anarchy. The president is very biased and sentimental in handling issues of governance. The only perceived enemies of the president of the country are those in the opposition. However sincere and committed one is to duty, once not in the same party with the president, he or she is not availed some opportunities, they live like second class citizen in their country while, those in the same political party with the president, no matter how corrupt, parade themselves as saints and untouchable and as a matter of fact, not answerable to anyone”, said Ajayi. “The seed of democracy planted, germinated and nurtured by previous governments is being withered away by the present government for its lack of focus and desperation for power. I am seizing this opportunity to call on Mr. President to treat Nigerians fairly and equally not minding our political differences. Security should not be seen and handled with sentiment and biased mind”. The president should not see himself as president of PDP states but the entire states. Nigeria should be made to be a lawful country, where law and order reign. The president should concentrate more on his electoral promises to Nigerians instead of dissipating his time, energy and our commonwealth on his campaign which of course, run fowl of the law of the land”, said Ajayi. Nigerians expect that in the subsequent years of celebrating Nigeria’s independence, the Nigeria political cum economic structure should be strengthened so that it will enable the country’s socio-political and economic system to thrive. They believed that with virile structure the country would be classified among the comity of civilized nations.
