My view on the upcoming census ! As we all know , the first Census in 20 years is going to be held from tomorrow . So now the choice is in your hands . Dont just vote according to your wallet or short-term gain , follow your heart and dont yield to outside blackmail and pressure . Do it wisely and always take note of the majority interest that lies in the sovereignty of our land and maintenance of the tribal integrity . The fundamental issue that is often overlooked in our system is the value of the people of the land in themselves to themselves. Human beings are not Homo economicus or interchangeable cyphers. Human beings are blood, genes, ethnicity, kinship, peoplehood, shared gene interests, shared histories, shared love , shared memories and ownership of the land. We are, or we have, all these things.This identity is truly essential, and its continuity is the highest interest in human life, far above the petty ideals of materalism and short-term gains . Men can work together when they are united by mythology ,legend , folk memory , sculpture and song . When these things are absent we are left with a series of pyschological warfare or even a full blown conflict and Not a tranquil harmonious community . The more mono cultural , mono ethnic/mono racial they are , the more cohesive , crime free , stable , affluent , altruistic and able to come together to overcome times of hardship a society has . So, We can draw a glaring distinction between a homogeneous and heterogeneous society and its implication here . Whatever Pro-Zomi parties come out do not neccesarily have to be the conduit toward a robust form of Nationalism . Factoring in the recent phenomena give us so much lessons out of being feverishly attentive to the tribal identity while turning a blind eye to the ethnic imperative . The identity in ourself , the blood , the gene and language those are what most important here even with the absence of our de facto ethnic name Zomi . The idea of uniting all Zomi people to form a Pan-Zomi identity was dealt a crushing blow when a last pivotal negotiation at TBCY church , yangon in december wrapped up with no single agreement and that left us with different tribal factions to agitate for our own interests . Zomi has since become the object of public quarrel and hot button issue viral in an unprecedented scale and i must say that this is a very sad facet of the modern Zomi . If the current trend is anything to go by and i am afraid , i dont really hold out much hope for the prospect of a future silver-lining down the road .
