My visit to Bridgwater Docks . Bridgwater and Taunton canal. I - TopicsExpress

My visit to Bridgwater Docks . Bridgwater and Taunton canal. I was surprised that narrow boats were unable to navigate the canal from Bridgwater docks. I was speaking to Mary’s the owner of narrow boat (puff) who said she was unable to navigate the canal because it is not deep enough and needs dredging . Also her boat is longer than a 48 foot lock further up the canal. Her boat was craned in from a birth in Bath. The canal Dock no longer opens up into the river Parrott and the sea (Bristol Channel); but there is talk of the canal being dredged and the docks opened up into the river Parrott again. I was looking at a narrow boat for sale and as a permanent houseboat on the docks its ok but I would obviously like to navigate from there to taunting. Further up the canal there is Maunsel lock canal centre at north Newton; where a Narrow boat operates from the centre. Hence some of the canal must be navigable. Hope this post helps to save and promote work on the canal. References: Bridgwater and Taunton canal association (BATCA) and Bridgwater civic society
