My voting and reasoning this election: Senator: Cory Gardner, - TopicsExpress

My voting and reasoning this election: Senator: Cory Gardner, GOP: SCOTUS, enough said. Governor: Matthew Hess, Libertarian. While I would appreciate Beauprez in office so as to have at least a partial remedy to Democratic Control over various judicial appointment committees and the IEC, I have been generally disappointed by his campaign. Flip flops on Personhood, demagoguing Dunlap and statutory rape, and a general paranoia (have you seen the archives for A Line of Sight???) give me just enough qualms to filp at the last minute from being a lukewarm Beauprez voter to withholding my vote for him and going a different direction. While that different direction could be Dunafon, when I go an alternative direction I want the candidate to be in the libertarian party so as to gradually build up a GOP alternative. As such, Hess gets the vote here. I wish Beauprez luck in the general and should he win I will strongly consider voting for him for reelection depending on how he governs. CD4 - Jess Loban, Libertarian - Ken Buck is going to win this race and I have voted for him before for US Senate. However, this isnt a senate race , it is a congressional race. Congressman are held to a different standard in my eyes as they serve only two years and are not part of the advise/consent process on Supreme Court Justices. And, when you get down to it, Bucks positions on various social issues including Personhood. serve as a disqualifier in my eyes. Secretary of State: Wayne Williams, GOP - for conservatives this is possibly the most important race longterm. Not because of voter fraud/voter ID issues or because I know and like him. Rather because Joe Neguse is the progressives bright shining star for the future - as he is know to be highly intelligent, highly charsimatic, highly progressive, and - according to at least one female dem friend - highly attractive despite being unavailable. I am against the Dems having a presidential-level candidate being groomed in Colorado so I cast a strong vote for Wayne here. Treasurer: Walker Stapleton, GOP - Stapleton has future governor written all over him and has done a good job with bringing attention to issues with PERA. A strong vote for him here. Attorney General: Cynthia Coffman, GOP - This is a battle between Coffman and David K Williams Jr.. I have know David for a long time and consider him a friend. If this were an office for the state senate, state house, or congress I would be voting the other direction and in his favor. However, the vote is not for any of those, it is for AG. And I think David is particularly ill-suited for the position of AG. Being an effective attorney general is not just about fighting grand philosophical battles. It is primarily about managing one of the, if not the, largest law firms in the state. And managing attorneys, often compared to herding cats, is something I do not have any faith in David being able to do at this point in his career. If David were to win this race, Id expect an office mutiny halfway into his term due to what I expect to be his philosophy for handling the office and for him to be a frequent target on Colbert and Jon Stewart. I am not willing to risk seeing a friend go through that, or seeing that happen to one of the first libertarian statewide office holders in this nation. As such, I strongly urge David to seek other offices in the future which are more suited to his goals in politics and that better suit his skills and temperament. Because I believe Coffman has better office managerial skills and will largely continue some of the positive work that Suthers has done (despite being paranoid on Marijuana issues), this is a medium strength vote for her. State Senate, District 30: Chris Holbert, GOP/RMGO. This is a vote against my better judgment. By all means, I should not be voting for Chris. He is part of the RMGO coalition at the State Legislature and RMGO is basically a large source of all that is wrong with GOP primary politics. The problem is that I know and like the guy. This should be an important lesson for those who work on campaigns challenging entrenched politicians a candidate who has strong community ties will get votes they shouldnt otherwise get. State Rep: District 44: Lily Williams, libertarian. To seek atonement for my heresy of voting for Chris, I am voting for Lily. I dont know much about her or Kim Ransom. Really didnt put much thought into this one. PROPOSITIONS: Prop 67 (PERSONHOOD): NO. Its Personhood - enough said Prop 68 (Gambling): NO. While I like the idea of gambling in this state, I am not fond of how this proposition was set up. Prop 104 (Open Meetings for School Boards): YES: I support open meetings for school boards. Prop 105 (GMO Labeling): NO. While I am not necessarily against the idea of mandated food warning labels, there has to be a really good reason for it in my eyes to justify the compelled speech. The presence of GMO ingredients does not rise to that level as of now, especially when there are voluntary alternatives.
