My weekend was so busy, but Ive posted Chapter 2 of Tangled Web: A Facebook Love Story. You can view it on my FB page at facebook/wildspicebooks or if you missed Chapter 1, you can read both chapters at wildspice.org -- this is the English version, and Ill post the Indonesian version in a few days as soon as my friend Andri Mardhiana finishes the translation. I write FICTION. Like most writers, I base characters in my stories on interesting people I meet. Some I know in real life, others are Facebook friends. When I meet a new friend, my mind comes up with crazy ideas about what he or she might be doing in my story, and then I write what I see in my imagination. This week, my publishers lawyer told me that I can say who my characters are based on, but I cant use their names in my story, not even first names, not even if they approve. He says that some people wont get the message Im writing fiction. For example, if I have a FB friend named Joe, and I set him up on a date with my friend Mary, they both might be married in real life, and if their spouses read my story, they will be very unhappy. So heres who inspired me! The Adam character in my story is inspired by my FB friend Peter Redpath, a nice guy who lives in the UK, has a great sense of humor and cheered me up with some funny posts the day I got blocked and sent off to Facebook Jail. My boss in the story (Allen) is based on my boss in real life, who really is a total jerk. In Chapter 2, I introduce a new character, Maria, and she is inspired by my pretty Latina friend Vanessa Otero. David in my story is based on my lover in real life, whose name is David, and I dont care what the lawyers say, Im using his name; if he doesnt like it, oh well. We were married for a few crazy months, separated, and now were dating again. Many of the scenes in my story that involve him actually happened. Finally, the Angel character in my story is inspired by my girlfriend in real life, and Im not mentioning her name because shes a sweet girl and I dont want people bothering her -- and yes, Im very possessive of her lol. I hope you like Chapter 3, and Im already working on the next chapter. Ill try to post it by the end of the week.
