My wife and I watch a lot of reality TV shows and home improvement shows. I wanted to point out some things I have noticed in recent years as my brain has started to turn to mush watching the boob tube. If you dont get that phrase, Google it. First of all, if Im going to watch a show about the transformation of a home, or a room, whatever, I dont want to see what happens at the end of the show in the introduction. Do they really think our attention span is that small that they have to show us what the transformed room is going to look like? Great, now I dont need to watch it, onto the next show. Im watching the show. I made the conscious decision to watch the show and theyve built up this mystery or drama as to whether or not something is going to work out right, then at the end of a segment they have this stupid coming up that they sneak in on you before you can reach the remote to pause it, and BAM they show you scenes from after the commercial break where that issue they were building drama about is obviously solved because the room is finished. I hate coming up and thats why we DVR. Cliffhangers! Do we really need them? Do they honestly think we are so stupid that we believe four times in a filming, someone stumbles onto something behind an object, just out of view on Storage Wars and the person finding it says something like, What do we have here!? And then the screen goes blank and its commercial time. Commercials... I hate them. Dish network has a fast forward button that lets you skip ahead exactly 30 seconds. I have found out that the magic time is 3 minutes thirty seconds. Sometimes they have some extended commercial breaks, but for the most part, each break is exactly 3:30. Give it a try. Recaps... We dont need them. If you just tuned in, you missed it. Recapping the two minutes before the commercial break after every break is annoying! Lastly, there are certain types of characters the producers cast, like they are casting for The Hangover. Theres the reliable, boring person who will always do the right thing, the crazy stupid person (which for some reason always has a Southern accent) who gets in trouble, and you can probably fill in the he rest. Next time you are watching your favorite reality TV show, pay attention. It applies to all of them.
