My wife had gastric banding done in the ACT 20 years ago but had to have it removed in Moe 4 years later along with a sponge which wasnt supposed to be there. As she doesnt have any teeth she cant eat anything which I could. Dont get me wrong but I do believe that we have to make allowances for the odd muck up. I will concede that I may well need it done myself as Im not that much put off by my wifes plight? There are benefits & there are pitfalls. While Im not altogether inactive I still have Type 2 diabetes which I like to try & control myself. Id considered gastric banding years ago but only seemed to have come up against what seemed like an excuse by a doctor not to do it? While Id decided what to eat & what not to eat, Id found that soy does well in controlling my cholesterol levels so my heart cant be much a problem. Currently Im at 111kg after being something like 130kg. While it was that my wife had lost a fair bit of weight while she was banded, shes since put weight back on since. My question is, at what size do we have to be overweight before doctors decide to finally make a decision on whether to perform gastric banding? If I had to, Id gladly commit myself to gastric banding if doctors were truly committed to it in return as all this really does bother me as frankly, Im sick of being treated unfairly. Weve been contributing to private health but even they, unless I stand to be corrected arent that much help either?
