My wife is Estonian and my kids speak Estonian so I am a little - TopicsExpress

My wife is Estonian and my kids speak Estonian so I am a little biased. But this is a fascinating article on how Estonia became the most wired country in the world with the largest number of startups per capita. Which is even more surprising considering that until 1991, Estonia was under Soviet Communist rule. This article in The Economist shares a lot of incredible facts but does not really point out to the root cause. But if I had to suggest a root cause for Estonias success Id say its the fact that it has a habit of electing young people into politics. Upon independence Estonia government had an average of 35. Even today, Estonias Prime Minister, Taavi Rõivas, just turned 35. And Estonia is still making waves because the entire country thinks like a startup - including its recent plans to hack the idea of the nation-state and offer e-citizenship to anyone worldwide. Most countries seem to feel that older, more experienced folks make better politicians and leaders. I would bet against it. Perhaps, as Estonia shows, we need to be electing more young, global, tech-savvy people to lead our nations. economist/blogs/economist-explains/2013/07/economist-explains-21
