My wife likes to camp – as long as it is at a Marriott!! Watch the video https://youtube/watch?v=z0sYStPXDhE&feature=youtu.be Quick Hit! 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. Now that my mom is sick and her time is short, my family and I find ourselves in Tallahassee Florida visiting her on a regular basis. We had just spend two days there and we got home at about 12:30 last Friday night. I remember laying down in my own bed and saying to myself, “Wow, it’s good to be in my own bed.” Well imagine if your own bed was always in a tent. Remember Abraham had set out to the land of promise. He wasn’t sure where he was going. Then he gets there and I am sure that Sarah is saying, “Now that we are here, can you build me a house?” But that was not the case. They lived in tents – like campers. Abraham was looking for a city - a better city, one build and designed by God. Point for you and me is, don’t get so attached to the things of this world. There is something better coming. When you focus on Heaven and what we will have, the things of this life just don’t seem to matter. Let’s take this one a little deeper. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God Meaning – Abraham didn’t have a home. He didn’t build a house in the land of promise. He just lived like he was a stranger, a foreigner, like the place he was living in was not home. Why was that? Because he was looking for a better place. He was looking for a home that God would build for him. Abraham realized that this world was not the final stop on his journey. He realized that the accumulation of possessions did not have any long term benefit. There is a final stop for you and I as Believers and that final stop is Heaven. We need to live our lives like this world doesn’t matter, and live for the world to come. Application – As Believers, we try to live in both worlds. We want to serve the Lord and say that eternal things matter to us. At the same time we want say that we should be as comfortable as possible and that there is nothing wrong with having a big house and a nice car. And that is correct. There is nothing wrong with having those things. But the question that remains is, how much to we love the Lord? How important is God and furthering His kingdom to us? Let me put it a little plainer for you. How sacrificial are you willing to be so that you can further God’s kingdom? We love to have the best. We love to live in comfort. Yet there is a world around us that we could help if we could stand to live in a little less comfort. I think of how well we have it compared to the rest of the world and am convicted that we live far better by choice and our comfort causes us to neglect our relationship with our Savior. Push away the love of comfort and be willing to sacrifice. Realize this world is not our final stop. Heaven is our final home and we should be laying up rewards in Heaven.
