My wife wanted me to share my latest dispatch. Whom I to tell her - TopicsExpress

My wife wanted me to share my latest dispatch. Whom I to tell her No? Men, A (relatively) brief note on something that was shared with me last night. Ive seen these (and more) statistics for the last few years, but this one is a bit more stark. Watch this, first... youtube/embed/6-3X5hIFXYU As a father of 5 (and counting?), Ive had occasion to ponder the different comments and thoughts Ive heard on this. Are you done yet? Why bring more children into this world? If you can afford it, then great. Etc, ad nauseum. Last first: due to the economy and some financial circumstances the last few years, our family has learned that there was A LOT of extraneous modern fluff that we could do without. Consider this: between cell, cable, internet, and entertainment, how much do you spend each month? We were well over $500. Thats $500 of monthly expense that we, and most people, didnt spend as recently as 10 years ago. Ask yourself What do I really need, vs what is just wasted comfort? I say wasted because, in 30 years, how much of what youre spending now will you look back on and value in the future present? What else could you do with those resources, that would make a greater long-term impact, to your children, and to your brothers and sisters in Christ? Why bring more children into this world? How can we expect the world to *get* better if we dont bring in and bring up more good, Christian souls? Think the secularists, atheists, and Muslims are going to do better with it? Despite anyones agreement or disagreement with the rulings, a majority of the Supreme Court is Catholic. Would their rulings be more just with a less religiously educated foundation? Or founded in a different religion completely? Finally, Ill be done when He finishes with me. If we profess to believe the Gospel, then we must take him at his word when he says Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? o do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6: 25-34) Mother Angelica said Faith is like having one foot on the ground, one in the air, and a queasy feeling in your stomach. Trying to live in practice those words from Matthew can certainly be queasy, at first. But trusting in Him will always reward us more greatly than we could ask for. The rewards may not be what the world would teach us to value, but they will always be more valuable than anything the world can provide. So, to those of you still able, Id say that evangelization is not the *only* way to grow the flock. Get to work! :-) Scott Klimczak Spiritual Director St. Mary Mens Club
