My wifes boss knows that I make a lot of veggie smoothies and sent home a recipe she had pulled out of a magazine. It was intended for a juicer machine (juice extractor type like a Jack Lalanne juicer) whereas I use a blender type so I can retain the pulp/fiber of the veggies and fruit. I worked with it and I think I came up with a pretty darn good recipe. The recipe called for spinach, but I did not have any on hand as I use more Kale than anything. I did have some romaine lettuce, however, which is about the same flavor strength of spinach but milder than Kale. 3C Romaine Lettuce (or spinach) 1C Cucumber 3/4C Pineapple 1/2C Green seedless grapes 1 Banana 1-1/2C Apple Juice 1-1/2C Filtered Water 1C Rice Milk 1/2C Coconut Water 1 Tbsp Flax Seed 1 Tbsp Glutamine The Glutamine is optional. I use it simply because it is one of the first amino acids to be used in your muscles during exercise and so I like to add that to my smoothies for cycling, etc. It is a pretty darn good recipe if I do say so myself. It has a sweet/tart taste to it but virtually no where to be tasted are the lettuce and cucumber. It does lack Vitamin D and B12, but that is easily remedied by using Soy Milk instead of Rice Milk. For a 32oz serving it has only about 350 calories. The entire recipe makes about 55 ounces as is and is just a tad over 600 calories. It has no cholesterol, loads of potassium and is well balanced elsewhere. I think the next time I make this I may add just a little celery to it just for a little added nutrition. For someone that is wanting to try out veggie smoothies but worried about what they taste like, I think this would make a good one to start with. The veggies are very well masked and could be further sweetened with a sweetener like agave or even other fruits, but I would try it as is first and see what you think.
