My youngest let the dogs out again the other day and as dogs do they ran like hell. Watching from the garage as they ran out of the driveway and up the road,butts to chin tongues out like buggy whips, my heart sank and I barely managed a sound before they were out of sight. Living very close to two very busy roads, my first thought is my dog loves might get hit. The first responders are the neighborhood kids who think our house is the Romper Room and have their own love of the Ripley and Riddick show. Bikes are ditched,skateboards flung,into the jungle they go behind my house. Now to make a long story short and without a lot of literary hocus pocus. I find myself heading up Crismon feeling hopeless while wife is driving past me heading in opposite direction when I happen upon a brand new black Lexus with its hazards on. Im thinking this car just smoked one of my dogs and is calling the cops as I get closer and see the teenage passenger on a cellphone. Im at a slow jog and throw up my arms expecting the worse when the occupants see me, in all my tattood glory, start smiling and the kid puts down his phone. Two slobbering dog faces jump into view. The kid sees my face turn to a smile and gets out asking if they are my dogs. Im like OMG yes, I thought you hit one. He responds, no I was calling the home again number. Then something else that brightens my day happens, they offer me and dogs a ride home! Did I mention this is a brand new fing Lexus? I agree and on the way the mother says, and I quote You have beautiful dogs, they are so nice. What are they? After I chuckle a little I tell her they are pit bulls. The look on her face was priceless. The moral of this story is from several different angles to the same point, its whats on the inside that matters. I was guilty too. I thought the people in the car were going to be arrogant dicks. That changed once I met them. They had a preconceived notion that pits are mean. That changed when they met them. Can you get what Im shoveling here? This world still has good people who care, dont judge period
