#MyTLCStory More than two years ago, my family and I made a mistake. A wonderful mistake, that is. We took a last-minute weekend vacation to Boston in the waning summer of 2012. At that time, we were living in Maryland, and our two daughters were attending another deaf school there. Our daughters had been expressing dissatisfaction with that school for a long time, but my husband and I had been adamant about their attendance there. We stayed at a hotel in Cambridge for several nights and toured Boston and Cape Cod. At the very last minute, we added a tour of the Learning Center for the Deaf in Framingham. We loved Boston, and the Cape left us agog. And seeing the Learning Center for the Deaf blew us away. We were in awe of TLCs bi/bi philosophy, impressed by its anti-bullying program, and enchanted by its New England-esque buildings. The professionalism and friendliness of TLCs staff also impressed us. More telling, our daughters simply loved TLC and begged us to let them go to school there. On the last day of our vacation and after much debate, we signed a lease for an apartment near TLC. My husband and our two daughters moved up to Massachusetts a week and a half later. A year and a half later, I moved up also and began working at a new job in Boston. Our daughters began first and third grades at TLC that fall two years ago. And they havent looked back since then. They quickly and seamlessly integrated with the students at TLC, and loved their classes and teachers. Our lives have been irrevocably changed - for the better. All because of our wonderful mistake of taking a last-minute vacation to Boston. We dare you to make the same mistake.
