Myanmar EITI Coordination Office Welcomes EITI Board Decision The Myanmar EITI Coordination Office is delighted to announce that the EITI Board has today (2 July 2014)approved Myanmar’s application to become an EITI Candidate country. Myanmar joins 44 countries that have committed to improved transparency of government revenues from the extraction of natural resources through implementing the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)global transparency standard. As an EITI Candidate country, Myanmar, which has significant mineral and hydrocarbon deposits (including oil, gas, gold, copper, jade and gemstones among many others) is now required topublicly disclosea range of information about its extractive industries in an annual EITI Report. This includes payment and revenue data, production data as well as information about how licenses are allocated, who the license holders are and and other contextual information about the extractive industries. Myanmar has 18 months to produce its first EITI Report, and will need to meet all of the requirements of the EITI Standard within three years to become EITI Compliant. With this, Myanmar, current chair of the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN), joins its fellow members Indonesia and Philippines in working towards greater transparency in natural resource governance within the region. The MEITI Coordination Office looks forward to working with the MEITI Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG), which comprises representatives of civil society, government and companies to implement the various activities agreed in its Workplan, and to produce the first EITI Report.
