Myanmar U-23 Team Lost Four Friendly Matches in a Row ……………………………………………………………………………….… Yangon, June 12 The Myanmar national U-23 team, founded for the SEA Games, lost four friendly matches against local and foreign clubs by a large margin. After 10 days of training in Taung Gyi, the Myanmar U-23 team lost to MNL All stars by 2-1 on May 26th; the Singapore national team by 2-0 on June 4th; the Darnan football club of Vietnam by 3-1 on June 9th; and the Vietnam U-23 team by 2-0 on June 11th. While the Myanmar men’s national team keeps facing losses, the women’s team has already qualified for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup and is much superior to other ASEAN teams. Hence, fans and veteran players have lamented the performance of manager Park Sung Hwa and the players in the national squad. Veteran Myanmar soccer player U Khin Maung Kyaing complains that even though six players under the age of 23 were selected for the Myanmar national team, they were never allowed to play in the friendly matches. He adds, “Out of the coaches who have been selected for the national team, Park Sung Hwa has the least intimacy with the players.” At the same time, U Aye Maung Gyi, manager of the Zwe Ka Pin football club, remarks that the reason team play has not improved is the manager’s weak administration. “Tactics and strategies need to change if the current squad is to be used for the SEA Games,” he comments. Manager Park Sung Hwa, however, believes that the players will improve their skills after playing friendly matches. The highest feat Park Sung Hwa has accomplished as the manager of the Myanmar national team is the U-22 team’s qualification for the AFC U-22 Asian Cup. U Zaw Zaw, chairman of the Myanmar Football Federation, has given manager Park Sung Hwa complete control over the national team’s affairs.
