Mynderse Academy Football defeated Holley 33-12 to capture the Class C Bowl Championship. Ben Cafolla was named Most Valuable Player and Gino Pirozzolo the Sportsmanship Award. Congratulations Blue Devil Football! Below is a write up from the FingerLakes Times: By GREGORY G. McNALL SENECA FALLS — Mynderse football coach Mike Miller was a bit too quick for the celebratory dousing his players had planned for him after the Blue Devils’ victory over Holley Thursday. Mynderse’s defense was a bit too quick for the Hawks too. The Blue Devils controlled the line of scrimmage and used a quick-strike offense to claim a 33-12 victory in the Connors & Ferris Class C championship game at Bracht Field. Mynderse game MVP Ben Cafolla racked up 12 tackles, eight of them solo, two tackles for a loss and a pair of sacks as the Blue Devils finished the season 4-5. Gino Pirozzolo posted nine solo tackles, three assisted stops and a tackle for a loss; he earned the game’s sportsmanship award. Matthias Jones added 10 tackles, including three for a loss. Scott Kline pitched in with nine stops and Chris Plate finished with six. “Their offensive line was very big, but I think we were a little bit quicker up front, which I think helped us,” Miller said moments after deftly sidestepping the potential water and ice shower from a Gatorade bucket. “The linebackers stepped up nicely and filled in the holes.” Quarterback Liam Caraher completed 8 of 13 passes for 158 yards. He tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Elijah Prosser and one to Cafolla. Kline ran for 59 yards, one more than Raheem Love. Love added a 14-yard scoring jaunt. Caraher hit Cafolla on a 48-yard long scoring connection in the first quarter; Cafolla caught four passes for 77 yards. Caraher and Love ran for second-quarter TDs to build a 21-0 lead at the intermission. Holley created its first best chance to score early in the third, but Caraher broke up a fourth-down passe in the end zone. Mynderse added to its lead when Caraher hit Prosser in stride for a 45-yard strike. The duo hooked up again in the fourth. “He set his feet and threw the ball well,” Miller said of Caraher. “With [Holley] coming so hard we had to throw the ball. It’s something we’ve been working on the last few weeks, and it paid off.” Holley quarterback Nick Passarell hit Clarence Moyer for a fourth-quarter touchdown pass, and Zach Day ran for score later in the period.
