Myself, Im not personally ashamed that there are other doctors who - TopicsExpress

Myself, Im not personally ashamed that there are other doctors who cheat the system -- I think it is they who should be ashamed. (But then again, if they had shame for cheating the system, wouldnt they have stopped by now?) Im more of angered by the fact that there are those who mess it all up for the rest of us. Now on that note, I concur, Kim Henares does have a point about the BIR ad campaign supposedly being intended for those who are explicitly depicted in it. But while I myself pay my taxes (and hence, by implication not the target of this ad campaign), I cant help but be offended by how doctors are being depicted here. Kim Henares may like hiding behind the veil of Im just doing my job and telling it like it is, but youd have to be dense not to notice that she holds contempt for, and is characteristically & consistently condescending to all of us doctors (as her actions show). Whats even more appalling is that she enjoys it. And to rub salt on an open & infected wound, shes part of a government that simply funnels peoples hard-earned money into pork barrel scams -- and the people who run these scams, well they arent ashamed, not one bit. As for the problems of the medical community that are not related to the issue of taxation, well, I think they should be dealt with -- but not alongside the tax issue. Yes there are abusive doctors who like throwing their weight around as much as politicians do -- power kind of does that to a person: makes a person eventually show the world what an asshole that person is underneath. But I think being abusive of power is a personal flaw, not a professional one. Doctors arent the only ones who are under the risk of abusing power, just as doctors arent the only one who are under the risk of cheating on taxes. True, the medical profession should strive for & enact improvements (especially this whole problem of power tripping); but then again, shouldnt every other sector of society? What it boils down to, for me, is respect. Kim Henares can go after every tax evader on the planet for all I care. But what does get me feeling dissed is that she doesnt care about the feelings of all the other people who arent tax evaders. She doesnt care because she has no respect. And Id be willing to bet that she doesnt have respect because thats her personal character flaw; that, and the fact that shes the big boss of the BIR. (Remeber what I said about power bringing out the asshole in a person? case in point.) I totally agree with going after tax evaders - doctors, business people, public servants, etc. - but as an educated & urbane professional, I dont see how being condescending & dissing people off is even needed for that endeavor. And if youre on the receiving end of that dis but dont notice it, then I think you need to check if you still got all cylinders firing, baby.
