Mystery Camera Alert...First Ever Sighting Occasionally, we run - TopicsExpress

Mystery Camera Alert...First Ever Sighting Occasionally, we run across a picture of a camera we have never seen before...this is one of those occasions. This one of a kind photo from Jodid Peeler came in last night and its something I have never seen before. I think this is the RCA TK45 color camera that was developed for medical use in the late 50s. The chassis is an elongated TK11 body and it was typically ceiling mounted in operating rooms. It had remote control focus and lens turret features and since there was no camera operator in the O. R., there was no viewfinder, but this camera has one. I think this must have been the prototype model that was brought in and mounted on a pedestal for a story by Dave Garroway on advances in medical teaching. I would put the date on this photo in 1955, and the place is the Today set in the RCA Exhibition Hall. The second b/w photo shows a ceiling mounted TK45 in an alignment test at Walter Reed Hospital in 1956 and this production model has been modified to put the focus command on the rear of a shorter chassis and has Color Television markings on the side. The color photo is from 1960 and shows one of these cameras on display at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. I think there were only about two dozen of these made. By the way, the updated model of the RCA TK44A studio camera was also called the TK45 which debuted in 1973, but was officially designated the TK45A to avoid confusion in Camden. For more on the RCA cameras, VTRs and telecine, heres a link to our friend Lytle Hoovers site which I refer to frequently. Enjoy and share! oldradio/archives/hardware/TV/RCA-TV.htm
