Myth vs Reality - Identity Theft* MYTH 2: You must supply your Social Security Number (SSN) when asked for it. REALITY: The Social Security Administration explains on their website, that there are specific laws requiring a person to provide his or her SSN for certain purposes. Entitles that request for your SSN for legitimate purposes include, but are not limited to: government tax and welfare agencies, financial institutions and securities brokerages, state motor vehicle departments and employers upon acceptance of their offer of employment. Other entities may ask for it as it is a readily available identifier. Before sharing this sensitive data, ask why it is needed and if you can provide a different identifier instead. Memorize your SSN and do not carry around your Social Security card. *Source: Kroll Advisory Solutions (A partner of LegalShield) Contact us for more information at omlli@hotmail Or visit our website at bit.ly/omlli_LS
