Một bài viết của IELTS cho đề thi ngày 9/8/2014. FEEL FREE TO SHARE Some people think governments should ban dangerous sports while others think people should have freedom to do any sports or activity. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Due to the hazardous nature of extreme sports like sky diving or motocross, some people are of the opinion that it should be banned by the governments. However, there are still a majority of the society thinks that everyone has the autonomy to play which sports he or she likes. Whilst both views have legitimate points to prove, it is worth taking a look at the two perspectives before drawing my personal conclusion. To begin with, it is quite straightforward to identify why many people are against dangerous sports like car racing or cliff diving. It is clearly because there have been more and more accidents related to these sports happening to the players over the years. When these unhappy events occur, they bring grief, sorrow and of course trauma to the families and friends of the athletes. Understandably, those sports are consequently deemed to be life threatening and detrimental from the perspectives of an outsider. Thus, it goes without saying that the governments are the body that is in the best position to prohibit these sports in the eyes of general public. To the contrary, people who are of the view that it should be up to individuals ‘ decision to do what they want have another path of argument. That is if it was not for their interest and passion, they will not be willing to take on such risks to excel at the sports. Since it is personal decision, the consequences should not be escalated to a national level. Besides, there have been better safety measures to minimize the chance of players being involved in dismaying incidents. Thus, in this rationale, it is not necessary to get the governments to ban those sports. In conclusion, after looking at the issue from both points of view, I am more likely to agree with the idea that supports personal freedom in choosing whether or not to play such high-risk sports. After all, it appears to me that it is unreasonable to stop people from doing what they love.
