M’Update: Guess Muppet’s breed combination! Muppet’s foster family ordered a DNA test to determine Muppet’s breed ancestry. The results will break down her lineage in the form of an ancestry tree. This will allow us to see which breeds are present at a parent, grandparent, and great-grandparent level. A parent contributes 50% of their DNA while a grandparent contributes about 25% and great-grandparent approximately 12.5%. Reply to this post with your guesses. Results are expected back on or before 19 December. While you are waiting, check out this video that helps explain how genes determine the different physical traits that you may see in your dog. youtu.be/UAcPOch4-C8 /////////////////////////////////////////////////// There are probably at least a couple ODHS FB followers who are asking, “Who in the heck is Muppet?” Here’s a quick recap… Muppet was a pregnant Lab mix pulled from a kill shelter in Raleigh WV in mid-late July. There were five girls and five boys in her litter. She came to us with no name. Her foster family called her Muppet and each of the puppies were given Muppet character names. From July to late September the ODHS Puppy Cam provided 24/7 viewing of Muppet and her puppies in their foster home. Every few days we would post Muppet updates (M’Updates) on our FB news feed detailing eyes opening, first steps, transition to solid food, weight gains, personality development, and sharing photos. On 20 September the Muppet Babies made their public debut at the Fredericksburg Pet Expo. It was there that we learned how much of a cult following had developed. All of the puppies found forever homes and Muppet took some well-deserved time off. Muppet is shorter in stature but dense and substantial in appearance. She most closely resembles an English Lab. Muppet has a beautiful shiny, soft black coat with white socks on her front paws. She weighs about 60 pounds and we guess her age around three years. She is very calm, sweet, affectionate, and very intelligent. Muppet was an incredibly attentive, gentle, and caring mother to her litter. Since she has been relieved of her maternal responsibilities Muppet’s personality has exploded! She is very tomboyish with some rough and tumble play in the yard but she’s also sweet and affectionate inside. Muppet loves human contact and interaction. She loves to play with her foster pack members comprised six fulltime dogs with diverse breeds and personalities plus Gracie the hound, another ODHS adoptable. Muppet walks really really well on a leash, is house trained, and is happy to go for a ride with you anywhere. Normally her foster family crate trains their fosters. Muppet asked for an exception. She does well with the run of the house when the humans go out. No accidents and no mischief. Muppet is good with children.
