M’membe Orders Scott to Disqualify Edgar Lungu, two Others Fred M’membe, the Post Newspaper owner engineering selection of the Patriotic Front presidential candidate, has directed that Vice-President Guy Scott unilaterally disqualifies front runner Edgar Lungu, Mulenga Sata and Given Lubinda on grounds that their parents are not Zambians. This is a seemingly recipe for confusion that may throw the ruling party into further turmoil as the party is seriously divided. M’membe, who is in charge of national affairs with his Cartel, have forced widow Dr Christine Kaseba to contest the PF race. Acting Republican President Guy Scott held a press briefing today at which he spelled out M’membe’s instructions to the candidate. He announced that some of the candidates that have applied to contest for the PF presidency might be disqualified because of the parentage clause in the republican constitution. Dr. Scott says it is a well known fact that he did not file in his nomination to contest for the PF Presidency because he is restrained by parentage clause. M’membe has also instructed Guy Scott, without the approval by the Central Committee, appointed Anthony Kasolo as PF Deputy Secretary General and elevated Bridgett Atanga to Lungu’s position. Speaking during a press briefing at his office this afternoon, Dr. Scott says applications submitted on Tuesday and yesterday are still being scrutibised for qualifications to ensure candidates are in compliance with the constitutional requirement. Dr. Scott says all the candidates that do not qualify will not be allowed to contest on the PF ticket in order to avoid being taken to court in the name of injunctions days before elections. And Dr. Scott has urged the media not to spark issues and portray an image that there is chaos in the country.
