N.B.Stage of dorsal formations :Anencephaly is the most common Cephaloceles are less frequent. Anencephaly is absence of cortical tissue & cranial vault due to neural tube defect.But in this case which is due to intrauterine ischemia ; cerebral hemispheres are replaced with a sac of CSF and cranial vault is present .The basal ganglia and posterior fossa are preserved. Remmeber that the main DD of this case is hydrocephalus which is usually associated with macrocephaly & the cortex and MCA are identified & naturally may benefit from shunting . So this is different from anencephaly and different from hydrocephalus .WHAT IS THIS ?DO NOT HESITATE.
