N-MUSD 2015/16 School Year Calendar Survey Results - Please click on link to view attachments with results. N-MUSD recently distributed a survey district-wide asking the following BIG QUESTION: Should the District start school earlier for 2015-16? As a reminder, the traditional 2014-15 school calendar is already approved and was not part of this survey. NMUSD’s school calendar is developed after receiving feedback from various stakeholder groups through a Calendar Committee representing students, parents, teachers, administrators, and staff from various NMUSD departments including assessment, transportation, human resources and nutrition services. In addition to this feedback, the draft calendar is based on California Education Code, recommendations from the Orange County Department of Education and traditional NMUSD practices. The survey was intended to gather input on options for the 2015/16 school year and beyond. It was launched on April 19 and received input through May 9, 2014. A reported 3,865 district stakeholders participated in the survey. The District will now evaluate the responses in connection with the negotiations process with the employee unions. All draft calendars are considered by the District and the Newport-Mesa Federation of Teachers (NMFT) in the negotiations process and are included in the NMUSD-NMFT Collective Bargaining Agreement for approval by NMFT and the Board of Education. The impact of a calendar change may also require negotiations with CSEA if it is within the scope of bargaining. The District would like to sincerely thank individuals for participating in the calendar survey. The attached survey results will assist N-MUSD with establishing the school calendars for the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years. Based on the initial results, the majority of participants selected Option 1- status quo – don’t make any changes; begin school the day after labor day. The District hopes to have a negotiated draft calendar to present to the Board of Education for adoption on June 24, 2014. https://nmusd-ca.schoolloop/news/view?d=x&id=1400653354710&group_id=1216762529094&return_url=1401671533683
