N-MUSD Board of Education approves name-change of the CTE program - TopicsExpress

N-MUSD Board of Education approves name-change of the CTE program from “OFFICE OF CAREER PATHWAYS AND BUSINESS RELATIONS” to “OFFICE OF COLLEGE AND CAREER EDUCATION” The Career and Technical Education program has historically been considered a vocational pathway, which has kept college-bound students from considering the benefits of utilizing our career pathways resources. Changing the name of the program will be the start of expanding the awareness of the program and redefining the opportunities available to every student. Rationale for the name-change: 1.) The new title fits directly with our collective District vision of “College and Career Readiness.” 2.) The title considers the framework advocated by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills which contains the 4 “Cs”: Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity. 3.) Incorporating College and Career in our title helps create collaboration between Career and Technical Education and College Preparatory Education. 4.) College and Career denotes we are a strong “rigor and relevance” district. 5.) The title emphasizes our vision focused on post-secondary success. 6.) This name infers we are providing students with both academic proficiency and the technical skills necessary for advanced training in high-demand fields.
