N12BA, tenuously tied down on the ramp while in the service of Century Airlines way back in August of 1989, when I was but a captain of all of 1 months tenure, at the tender age of 28 and 1800 hours total time ,and awaited the trill of the beeper with anticipation , all the better to strap on a Douglas and launch into the midnight skies with abandon , fighting weather and deadlines with my crew , and living the Ernie Gann canon, all the better for being part of a vanishing crusty breed, guys and girls duking it out with the elements in the wee hours over a sleeping planet. 2BA, was the first 3 I ever landed on grass , she and her sister ship 9BA, graced our fleet till 1990 , when Century began to disperse its fleet to the 4 corners of the globe, and my DC3 education was only beginning. Today she is Opa Locka based I believe , with my friend Frank Moss and his sons, keeping the flame alive and well kindled.
